This year’s 25 March anniversary comes almost as a continuation of a long period of events, publications, exhibitions and activities related to the Revolution in the context of the bicentenary celebrations in 2021. With fewer restrictions, though not without measures, the anniversary will be celebrated again this year across the country.
The National Historical Museum, honoring the anniversary of March 25th, hosts on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 20:00 in the Conference Hall of the Old Parliament the play – story: “brought from the mouth”. Narratives about 1821.
In the context of the tribute to the Greek Revolution of 1821, the “House of Cyprus” and the “Society for the Study of Modern and Contemporary History – Ioannis Kapodistrias” will hold a lecture on “Prosperous, long-suffering Chios: the chronicle of an unspeakable tragedy“. The historian and archivist Dina Adamopoulou, Director of the Historical Archive – Museum of Hydra (GAK Hydra), will speak, while the attorney and historian Andreas Koukos, President of the Board of Directors of H.M.N.N.S.I. will intervene. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 22nd at 19:00. It will be streamed live here.
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki will hold the official celebration of the anniversary in the Ceremonial Hall of the University. The programme includes a speech by Lambros Margaritis, Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, on “The Tercetis Trial“, an event and music. The celebration will be streames live here.
In Patras, the Municipality and the Cultural Organization organize the event for the celebration of March 25th on 23/3 at the city’s Omonia Square. The Municipal Band and the Dance Department of the Cultural Organization will participate in the event. The drama school of the D.P.E.T.E. of Patras will present a theatrical performance about the life and action of the fighter of 1821 Panagiotis Karatzas from Patra. At the same time, the exhibition “Achaia in the Revolution of 1821 – Narration of events through the documents of the Municipal Library of Patras“, which is hosted at the Municipal Gallery of Patras, continues. The production of the opera “Markos Botsaris” is also available to the public.
The Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation, on the day of the anniversary, will inaugurate the exhibition of the museographer and creator Stamatis Zannos “Stamatis Zannos – Embroidery – Louis Dupré – Karl Krazeisen” at the cultural venue of PLI, in Nafplio. The images of the people that both the French painter met during his trip to Greece in the pre-revolutionary years and in Constantinople in 1819, as well as the German army officer and illustrator, inspired and motivated Stamatis Zannos, to depict them two hundred years later in a modern way, using a traditional technique, embroidery.
