According to the initial plan, the Museum was tasked with meeting the following objectives:

  2. The contribution of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace to the economic and social development of Thessaloniki, Macedonia, and the country
  3. Improved access to cultural activities
  4. Transnational and cross-border cooperation in cultural heritage and culture – Promoting the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace as a national and international hub
  5. Protection and promotion of cultural heritage, in conjunction with contemporary artistic creation
