The acceleration of the procedures for the completion of the study of the cable car construction in Diktaion Andron Cave was requested by the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, during a meeting in the auditorium of the Ministry of Culture.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor of Lasithi Yiannis Androulakis, the General Secretary of Culture Giorgos Didaskalou, the Mayor of Oropedion of Lasithi Yiannis Stefanakis, the head of the Technical Services Department of the development organization “Daidalos S.A.” Evangelos Koutantos and other officials.

Mrs. Mendoni gave instructions for the completion of the relevant study within the first five days of September, in order not to deviate from the project schedule.

The creation of a cable car on the eastern side of Diktaion Andron Cave is part of a programmatic contract project with a budget of 15.3 million euros, through the Recovery and Resilience Fund, which includes works to upgrade the cultural space such as the rock fixings on the outer slopes and inside the cave, the highlighting the space through lighting, the regeneration of Europe Square and the restoration of the paths for exploring the Cave.

The completion of the cable car will facilitate access to the archaeological site by all disabled people, which is part of the broader policy of the Government and the Ministry of Culture for smooth accessibility of all citizens to the country’s cultural heritage monuments.

At the same time, it will contribute decisively to the upgrading of the infrastructure and the quality of services of the archaeological site, highlighting an important point of culture and creating a development resource for the wider region.
