
The Ministry of Culture announces the State Awards for Literature, Literary Translation, and Children’s Books for the year 2025 (for publications in 2024).
I. STATE LITERARY AWARDS 2025
A. The 2025 Grand Prize for Literature is awarded jointly and equally to each of the following Modern Greek scholars: Vincenzo Rotolo, Jacques Bouchard, Roderick Beaton, and Moschos Morfakidis-Fylaktos, for their overall contribution to the arts.
B. The 2025 State Prize for Fiction is unanimously awarded to Minos Efstathiadis for his work I Write to You from the Belly of the Beast, published by Metaixmio.
C. The 2025 State Prize for Short Stories and Novellas is awarded by majority vote to Maria Mamaliga for her work Mercanto, published by Estia Bookstore.
D. The 2025 State Poetry Prize is awarded by majority vote to Dimitra Kotoula for her work Lamya, published by Patakis.
Ε. The 2025 State Prize for Essay and Criticism is unanimously awarded in equal parts to Lykourgos Kourkouvelas for his work on Franz Kafka. Politics and Culture in the Postwar Era, published by Pedio, and to Stefanos Trachanas, for his work The Cycle. Science and Democracy in Troubled Times, published by the University of Crete Press.
F. The 2025 State Prize for Testimony-Biography-Chronicle-Travel Literature is unanimously awarded to Kostis Karpozilos for his work Greek Communism. An International History (1912-1974), published by Antipodes.
G. The 2025 State Award for Best New Author is unanimously awarded to Thodoris Tsomidis for his work The Birth. A story in three seasons, published by Patakis.
H. The 2025 Special State Prize for a book that significantly promotes dialogue on sensitive social issues is unanimously awarded to Nikitas Siniosoglou for his work Isolation of Suspected Animals, published by Kichli.
Finally, the Committee unanimously decided to award an Honorary Distinction to the journals Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies and Journal of Modern Greek Studies for their contribution to the dissemination of Modern Greek studies internationally.
II. STATE AWARDS FOR LITERARY TRANSLATION 2025
A. The 2025 State Prize for the Translation of Foreign Literature into Greek is unanimously awarded to Titika Dimitroulia for her translation of Cecile Coulon’s A Beast in Paradise, published by Gutenberg, and to Dimitra Dotsi for her translation of Italo Calvino’s work, The Road to San Giovanni, published by Kastaniotis.
B. The State Award for the Translation of Ancient Greek Literature into Modern Greek 2025 is unanimously awarded to Tasoula Karageorgiou for her translation of the work of Anitis of Tegea, The Poems, Nikas Publications, and to Vaios Liapis, for his translation of the work of Lukianos, Plutarch, Theophrastus, Signs and Monsters, Superstition and its Critics in Ancient Greece, University of Crete Press.
C. The 2025 State Prize for the Translation of Greek Literature into a Foreign Language is unanimously awarded jointly to Eusebi Ayensa, for his translation of Constantine Cavafy’s work, Poesia completa (volumes I & II), published by Flâneur, and to Khaled Raouf, for his translation of Iakovos Kampanellis’ work, The Court of Miracles, published by Jusur Publishing.
II. STATE CHILDREN’S BOOK AWARDS 2025
A. The 2025 State Prize for Children’s Literature is awarded by majority vote to Kyriakos Athanasiadis for his work entitled The Strange Adam and the Moon (illustrated by Natalia Kapatsoulia), published by Psychogios.
B. The 2025 State Prize for Teenage and Young Adult Literature is awarded by majority vote to Anna Koupanou for her work entitled When the Sea Left Us, published by Patakis.
C. The 2025 State Award for Illustrated Children’s Books is unanimously awarded to illustrator Angeliki Bozou for her work entitled What Are They Looking At?, published by Mikri Selini.
D. The 2025 State Prize for Children’s Knowledge Books is awarded jointly to Nikos Mathioudakis and Manos Bonanos for their work entitled My Name is… Kiki Dimoula, (illustrated by Angeliki Bozou), published by Ikaros, and to Alexandra Seleli for her work entitled Stories about Seven-Soul Trash, (illustrated by Petroula Krigou), published by Kalentis.
