The Ministry of Culture announces the 2024 State Prizes for Literature, Literary Translation and Children’s Book (for the 2023 editions).

Ι. STATE LITERATURE AWARDS 2024

Α. The Grand Prize of Letters 2024 is awarded to Pantelis Boukalas for his overall contribution to Letters.

Β. The State Novel Prize 2024 is unanimously awarded equally to Ioanna Bourazopoulou, for her work The Dragon of Prespa III – The Memory of Ice, Kastaniotis Publications, and to Ilias Papamoschos, for his work Ascension, Patakis Publications.

C. The State Prize for Short Story 2024 is awarded by majority to Akis Papantonis, for his work The Last Bear of the Forest, Kichli Publications.

D. The State Poetry Prize 2024 is awarded by a majority to Anna Griva, for her work The Lost Goddess, Melani Publications.

Ε. The State Essay-Critique Prize 2024 is awarded by a majority to Myrtia Hellner, for her work History of Archaeological Photography in Greece, OTAN Publications.

F. The 2024 State Prize for Testimony-Biography-Chronicle-Travel Literature is unanimously awarded to Dimitris C. Yfantis, for his work Makronisos. When “madness” acquired a local definition. Psychopathological manifestations of reaction of displaced persons in Makronisos, Agra Publications.

G. The State Prize for Emerging Writer 2024 is awarded by a majority to Stavroula Papadaki, for her work “What the world will say?”, Kappa Publications.

H. The Special State Prize 2024 for a book that significantly promotes dialogue on sensitive social issues, is awarded by a majority to Yannis Nikoloudis, for his work Empty Place, Patakis Publications.

I. Finally, the Committee unanimously decided to award an honorary distinction to the literary magazine Kondylophoros.

ΙΙ. STATE LITERARY TRANSLATION AWARDS 2024

A) The State Prize for the Translation of Foreign Literature into Greek 2024 is unanimously awarded to Rena Hathout, for the translation of Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers (volumes A’ & B’), Gutenberg Publications.

B) The State Prize for the Translation of Ancient Greek Literature in Modern Greek 2024 is awarded by a majority to Stefanos Paraskevaidis, for the translation of the collective work The Time of the Plague. Epidemics in antiquity that surpassed reason, University Publications of Crete.

C) The State Prize for the Translation of a Work in Greek into a Foreign Language 2024 is awarded by a majority of half the prize to José Antonio Moreno Jurado, for the translation of the Anthology Antología de poesía chipriota (1821-2021), Centro de Estudios Bizantinos, Neogriegos y Chipriotas, and Hero Hokwerda, for the translation of Andreas Embeirikos’ De amuletten van de liefde en van de wapenen (The amulets of love and chariots: Argo or Plough of the air. Zemphira or The secret of Pasiphae. Beatrice or The Love of Bufallo Bill), published by Ta Grammata.

ΙΙI. STATE CHILDREN’S BOOK AWARDS 2024

Α. The State Prize for Children’s Literary Book 2024 is awarded by a majority to Fotini Fragoulis for the work entitled The History is Watching, (illustrated by Evie Tsaknias), Patakis Publications.

Β. The State Prize for Teenage – Young People’s Literary Book 2024 is awarded by a majority to Spyros Giannakopoulos for his work entitled Cosmonaut, Patakis Publications.

C. The State Prize for Illustrated Children’s Book 2024 is awarded equally to the illustrator Daniella Stamatiadis and the author Maria Lykartsi for the work titled Normally, Kastaniotis Publications, and to the illustrator Fotini Stefanidi for the work titled The Blackbird, Kaleidoscopio Publications.

D. The State Book Award for Children’s Knowledge 2024 is awarded in equal parts to Philip Mandilaras for his work entitled Escape Book. The Mechanism of Antikythera, (illustrated by Niki Leonidou), Papadopoulos Publications and to Mariza Decastro for the work entitled Alki Zei, Eyes like a blue sea (illustrated by Dimitra Miliori), Metaixmio Publications.
