The National Archaeological Museum and the British School of Athens invite you to the presentation of the two-volume publication R.L.N. Barber (ed.), Phylakopi, Melos, 1896-99. The finds in the National Archaeological Museum, Athens, BSA Suppl. Volume 53, on Tuesday 1 April 2025 at 17:30, at the Amphitheatre of the National Archaeological Museum.
(Tositsa 1, ZIP Code 106 82 Athens).
The great prehistoric city of Phylakopi in Melos, which flourished throughout the 2nd millennium BC, was excavated for the first time by the British School of Athens between 1896 and 1899 and the results were published in 1904. The finds were transported and kept in the EAM until today, while a significant number of them are part of the Museum’s permanent exhibition of Cycladic antiquities since the beginning of the 20th century. Between 2010 and 2023, the entire material of the historical excavation was re-examined by a large research team set up by the British School of Athens with the participation of distinguished scientists, under the tireless direction of Professor Robin Barber. The two-volume publication was delivered to the scientific community in the summer of 2024.
