The National Library of Greece (NLG) is participating in the European Heritage Days 2025 (EHD), with the theme “Architectural Heritage – Bridging the Past with the Future,” on Saturday, September 27, 2025 (11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.), and invites the public to a special walk.
Using a map of Athens from 1837 as their guide, participants will visit buildings that are landmarks in the history of the NLG and Industry, such as the church of Panagia Gorgoepikoos (known as Agios Eleftherios), the main building of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and the Vallianio Megaro. Some of the buildings have changed use over time, some have disappeared from the urban fabric, others were built for a specific purpose or combined more than two functions. All, however, are inextricably linked to the operation of the NLG, as well as to the history of the city, preserving aspects of its architectural heritage.
