The Hellenic American Union and Hestia Publications present the book by Professor Emeritus A-I. D.Metaxas The Unseen Handbook: Diplomatic Thought and Practice of Ioannis Kapodistrias (1815-1826). The event will take place on Thursday, May 29 at 19:00 at the Hellenic American Union Theatre (22 Massalias Street, Athens).

The book explores whether in the work of Ioannis Kapodistrias a fundamental principle of dispute resolution with timeless value can be discerned. It focuses on a philosophy of governance and crisis management that was as useful then as it is today. As Nikos Karapidakis notes in the foreword to the book: “It is the Unseen Handbook, in short, a way of reading and recomposing the political thought of I. Kapodistrias, his theoretical presuppositions, his perception of reality, his understanding of his time, his imagination even. The book would have remained at the level of a historical treatise if Professor Metaxas had not come, with the chapter entitled ‘In nostro tempore’, to highlight the timelessness of Kapodistrias’ political thought and thus bring to the surface a ‘classic’ of political thought.”

For the proposal developed in the book by the author, the following will speak:

Yorgos Kalpadakis, Researcher chief, the Academy of Athens

Dimitris Karaitidis, Ambassador Emeritus

Stelios Perrakis, Professor Emeritus of International and European Institutions, Former Vice Rector of Panteion University

The debate will be closed by Evangelos Venizelos, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor Emeritus of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The event will be chaired by Natalia Kapodistria, Actress-Director
