CENTRAL STAGE 09.09.2025 / 19:30
The Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy, as part of the 53rd Book Festival at Pedion tou Areos, organizes an event for the presentation of the publication:
“The Macedonia in the Greek Parliament, 1897-1989”
The trajectory of the Macedonian issue, as a privileged and “sensitive” topic of Greek political discussion, has many chapters and subchapters. These concern not only the public history of the diplomatic matter but also the broader reception of Macedonia as a region with distinct characteristics and problems, which require a different—if not special—approach from the national center.
In the volume, through the statements of MPs and ministers in the Greek Parliament, the changing significance of Macedonia as a symbol is highlighted, as well as the ways of managing its image and problems as a Greek province, according to the political needs and political discourse of each era.
Speakers: Vasilis K. Gounaris (Professor, AUTH), Ioannis D. Stefanidis (Professor, AUTH), Evanthis Chatzivasileiou (Professor, NKUA / General Secretary, Hellenic Parliament Foundation).CENTRAL STAGE 09.09.2025 / 19:30

CENTRAL STAGE  10.09.2025 / 20.30

The Book Publishers Association (S.EK.V.), as part of the 53rd Book Festival at Pedion tou Areos, organizes in collaboration with the Hellenic Comics Academy a roundtable with the theme:

“Comics in Greece: From the Margins to the Mainstream”

Freed from past stereotypes, the art of comics has been steadily gaining ground in recent years in the preferences of the reading public, shaping a new reality in the book sector. The steady decrease in the number of kiosks—traditional distribution points for comics in previous decades—combined with the increasing investment of numerous publishing houses in illustrated storytelling, have contributed to comics now appearing more and more on bookstore shelves—often even in their windows!

Additional elements completing the picture include the impressive rise of new Greek artists choosing comics as their expressive medium and the huge number of visitors gathered by Greek comics festivals, giving the impression of an emerging blossoming of a once misunderstood genre that was marginalized for years. But is this really the case?

Moderator: Vasileia Vaxevani (Program Manager, Athens Comics Library).
Speakers: Ilias Katirtziyanoglou (co-organizer, Comicdom Con Athens Festival), Eleni Papageorgiou (publisher, METAIXMIO), Alekos Papadatos (comic creator), Lefteris Stavrianos (publisher, Jemma Press, owner of comic stores), Katerina Fragkou (head of the literary agency Iris).
