In a departure from the usual auctions, VERGOS Auctions will auction 64 selected works from this collection, on Wednesday 9 April at 6:00 pm, in order to support the promotion of the multifaceted work of the renowned filmmaker, writer and collector.

Deeply spiritual and a multi-dimensional creator, Lakis Papastathis is recognized as one of the leading directors of his generation. At the same time, he was a pioneer in the field of cultural documentaries on Greek television, especially through the show “Paraskinio”, which he co-created with director Takis Hatzopoulos in 1976.
As part of its social responsibility, the House will not include buyer’s commission and royalties in the sale price of the works.
The intention of the family for the exploitation of the entire collection, which consists of 150 portraits by Papastathis and 500 other works, mostly landscapes and still lifes, is:
a) to hold an exhibition at the Benaki Museum of Piraeus dedicated to Papastathis, entitled «Lakis Papastathis- In search of the lost image», to be inaugurated on Thursday 3 April,
b) subsequently donate his portraits to public cultural institutions and finally,
c) through the auction to raise revenue for the digitization of the documentaries of Lakis Papastathis in order to make them accessible to all.
