The Municipal Art Gallery of Nikaia-Renti “Dinos Katsafanas” (32 Raidestou Street) will be open to the public in its new form from Sunday, February 2. In the re-exhibition of its permanent collection, alongside characteristic works that are permanent points of reference, recent donations and creations that have not been exhibited in recent years are presented.
The central feature is a tribute to Yannis Manganaris (Alexandria, 1918 – Athens, 2007) with recent acquisitions from the painter’s mature period, kindly donated by the artist’s wife, Michèle Broyer-Manganaris. Yannis Manganaris is one of the most lyrical modern symbolist painters of the last century. With poetic images of an archetypal nature, he offered his personal approach to the fundamental elements of human existence and its indissoluble relationship with nature.
At the same time, the works of Dimitris Mazis (Elefsina, 1946 – Athens, 2007), kindly donated by his wife, the painter Giota Papageorgiou, are of particular interest. In a section representative of the artist’s visual explorations, Mazis comments on the existential condition of man and interpersonal relationships with a love for pure color and expressionism that combines intensity and vulnerability.
The new exhibition also features works by Aginor Asteriadis, Fokion Dimitriadis, Lycourgos Kogevinas, Renata Menis, Nikos Batis, Nikos Oikonomidis, Valia Semertzidi, Giorgos Sikeliotis, Praxitelis Tzanoulinos, Yannis Hainis, as well as artists from Nikaia: Xenia Arapaki, Petros Georgaris, Eleni Zouba, Eleni Kalkani, Manolis Mantas, Dina Balona, Nikos Tzizmetzoglou, Dimitris Tiniakos, Grigoris Toufexian, and Despoina Tsakni.
Educational programs for school groups will be held during the exhibition by prior arrangement.
