A rare and extremely important double event is taking place at the Byzantine and Christian Museum. On June 19, the exhibition entitled “Donum Amicorom” (“Gift of Friends”) will open, including a large part of the 135 great works left by the late leading painter Pavlos Samios as a donation to the country’s major museums.

“I would like to be remembered through my works. I want those who see them to feel something of what I felt when I was painting“, wrote Pavlos Samios himself, explaining his initiative in a way.

The painter donated to important museums and institutions of the country great works of art from throughout his artistic career. Among them are the National Gallery, Byzantine Museum, Basil and Elise Goulandris Museum, Acropolis Museum, Archaeological Museum of Olympia, Archaeological Museum of Delphi, Municipal Gallery of Chania, Benaki Museum, Olympic Museum of Athens, Athens Concert Hall, Numismatic Museum, etc.

The publication “Liber Amicorum” (“Book of Friends”), which accompanies the exhibition, is edited by: Maria Xanthakos, Isabella Frances, Venia Pastaka.

Opening Night: 18 June 2024, at 19:00.
