The exhibition “Efi Strouza: A New Journey” presents the theoretical, art-critical, and curatorial work of the art historian and critic Efi Strouza, highlighting key moments of her career mainly through her rich archive, kindly granted by her family since 2019 to the then Institute of Contemporary Greek Art (ICGA). The exhibition includes original archival material, aiming to offer visitors the opportunity to understand her theoretical frameworks, concerns, and positions regarding art.

Prolific and combative, with vision and clear positions regarding the role of contemporary art of her time, Efi Strouza holds a distinctive place in the Greek visual arts scene of the post-dictatorship era. With her gaze constantly focused on international developments, she sought, through her curatorial practice and incisive theoretical interventions, to foster a fruitful dialogue between contemporary Greek art and the international visual arts landscape.

Efi Strouza’s archive offers valuable material for understanding the curatorial and critical production of recent decades. Her dual role—as an art critic and exhibition curator—is revealed through manuscripts, critical texts, notes, correspondence, press clippings, and dozens of exhibitions she curated or theoretically framed with her insightful perspective. The study of these archives significantly contributes to art history research, making Efi Strouza’s rich and well-documented archive not only a testimony but also a vehicle of thought and cultural action. This archival “journey” is not merely a retrospective—it is an ongoing dialogue with history and a way to reflect upon and comprehend contemporary culture.
