The interaction of the concepts of space, time and memory often reveals that the imprint of the image is not just a static field of morphological or conceptual quests, but rather a living feature that unites the past, present and future in the same moment.
Time – as evidenced by what we call photographic memory – is encapsulated in the image as a means of evoking dynamic representations or abstract propositions, allowing for the recall of both personal and collective memories. Similarly, the centrality of space, not only as a background but as an actively participating element, allows concepts such as change, decay and regeneration to come to the fore.
The impact of collective memory on public and physical space makes each place a reference point for its identity and heritage. The process of recording and representation becomes the artists’ research tool to redefine the generative element of memory, which defines how individuals and groups perceive and experience their world. Through the intensity of change and the perpetual flow of time, the image acts as a mediator, recording moments and producing new narratives, while preserving individual and collective identity.
The work of the 25 artists presented in the exhibition, through the experiential journeys of each of them, composes a visual puzzle that explores the incessant relationship between memory and time and space, while opening a dialogue for the regeneration of the cultural heritage of each place.
