The art gallery “Ekfrasi- Yanna Grammatopoulou”, presents the solo exhibition of Iphigenia Sdoukou entitled Threads of Fantasy.

In Iphigenia Sdoukou’s work, the traditional technique of embroidery is highlighted as a contemporary artistic medium. Mythical creatures, centaurs, renaissance women, peacocks, crows, unicorns, knights, skulls, etc. compose the mythical, romantic, and charming world of Sdoukou.

“Her compositions evoke medieval tapestries and illustrated manuscript codes with their pervasive mystical atmosphere, aesthetics, and intensely decorative character. These are compositions that are distinguished for their design values and painterly qualities, the exceptional delicacy of the color tones and the precision of the details, the special sensitivity and poetic rendering of the subjects, the mastery of the technique, and the texture of the material. Images – ancestral and timeless symbols that span eras and cultures – appear on the white surfaces of the fabrics to “tell” original stories through unexpected encounters and unexpected combinations,” art historian Yannis Bolis observes of her work.

Iphigenia Sdoukou studied painting and printmaking at the Florence School of Fine Arts. She has presented her work in solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. She was awarded the 6th Triennial of Textile Art in Novi Sad in 2017. She taught visual arts in secondary education. She collaborated as an illustrator with the publishing house “Anemi”. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Municipal Gallery of Larissa-Museum G. I. Katsigra. Her works are in the MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art-Collections of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and the State Museum of Contemporary Art (Thessaloniki), in the Municipal Gallery of Larissa-G. K. Katsichira Museum, in the Municipal Gallery of Larissa-G. K. Katsichira Museum, in the Municipal Gallery of Larissa. I. Katsigra, the Larissa University Hospital, the Museum of Folk Art and Tradition of the Municipality of Athens, as well as private collections.
