“Aftoptes Martyres” returns after two years for a new photographic… autopsy.

The four journalists from Thessaloniki, present in an exhibition entitled “Lives on the street” a total of 60 unpublished photographs from Greece and abroad.

Aftoptes Martyres” after a lot of… walking on the streets and a lot of filtering on their hard disks ended up in a peculiar conversation of their photographs, in color and black and white frames, capturing moments from the everyday lives of people who are connected by separate roads.

This is the fourth exhibition by the journalistic – photographic group “Aftoptes Martyres” which consists of the journalists Babis Giannakidis, Lazaros Theodorakidis, Christos Karagiannopoulos and Yannis Kessopoulos.

They have preceded, chronologically, their exhibition at Chalkos with 100 photographs of Thessaloniki and its proceeds were donated to the Municipal Infant Hospital “Agios Stylianos”, the next one was at the Remezzo of the Municipality of Kalamaria for the 100 years of the city since the Asia Minor Catastrophe, while the proceeds were donated to the Down Syndrome Association. Also, “Aftoptes Martyres” participated in the 7th Kapani Project, as part of the 59th Dimitria Festival, last month with 40 of their photos from the historic market. The photographic wealth was presented on two digital displays placed in areas within the market.

Meanwhile, in 2022 a scrapbook with 120 photographs of Thessaloniki accompanied by short bilingual texts written specifically for each frame by citizens of Thessaloniki and not only was released with great success by “Malliaris Paideia” publications.

Their new exhibition also has a social aspect as part of the proceeds from the sale of the photographs will be given to support the Association of Women with Breast Cancer “Alma Zois” of Thessaloniki. The President of the Association, Kyriakoula Derekenari, will address the opening ceremony.

Also participating in the exhibition with short texts – captions are 60 personalities from Greece and abroad, giving with their own signature a special view of each photograph.

The new exhibition is supported by the gallerist Kostas Parcharidis of Chalkos Gallery and the award-winning art director and photographer Mike Rafail who… captured the team on the poster with his photographic eye. Also, Paris Karagiannopoulos and Zoe Karathanasi contributed to the creation of the new video spot for the exhibition.
