The opening of the new, model Digital Academy of the Municipality of Chania, was attended by the Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis accompanied by the Secretary General of the Municipality of Chania, George Fragiadakis, the Deputy Mayor of Finance and Digital Governance, Tasos Aloglou and the councillor and delegate of the Municipality of Chania on issues of digital applications development, Manolis Kelaidis.
The Mayor was welcomed by the Head of Planning, Organization and Information Technology Department of the Municipality of Chania, Sevasti Polychronaki and officials of the Department.
The new Digital Academy of the Municipality of Chania, created in a specially designed room on the first floor of the building of the Municipality of Chania in Grigorios E Street and is equipped with state-of-the-art hardware that allows employees of the Municipality of Chania and citizens to be trained, developing their digital skills. It has 13 modern, state-of-the-art computers, interactive communication tools, modern interactive whiteboards and televisions as well as an advanced video conferencing system.
“For a particularly important day” said the Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis noting that “today is a brave, a huge and very important step in the further digitization and digital upgrading of the Municipality of Chania”.
At the need for further development of digital skills and knowledge of the employees of the Municipality of Chania referred Mr. Fragiadakis, stressing that: “In the coming weeks we will start implementing training programs to our staff in order to familiarize themselves with new platforms and be able to provide better services to citizens.”
For his part, Mr. Aloglou congratulating the staff of the Planning Department of the Municipality of Chania for the implementation of the Digital Academy, stressed that: “A very important space with modern equipment that can accommodate the training needs of our officials, hosting videoconferences and meetings. Most importantly, what it can satisfy is the need of our citizens to have a space where they can improve their skills in the use of the internet, which has entered very strongly into our lives in recent years. What we can promise to all our citizens is that we will continue our efforts to make their lives easier and create digital tools that can be met remotely and more easily and for which they will not need to be present in person in our municipality.”
Finally, Ms. Polychronaki referred to the technical details of the project stressing that this is part of a broader effort to exploit the relevant funding from the Recovery and Resilience Fund in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Governance, which has been launched three years ago and includes the implementation of a total of 21 digital, innovative – “smart” infrastructure and systems that meet the needs of citizens and the profile of the Municipality of Chania.
