The Mediterranean Trio consists of Miltiadis Papastamou (Greece) on violin, Yiannis Myralis (Cyprus) on saxophone, and Michael Tsalka (Israel/Netherlands) on piano. The trio’s goal is to promote chamber music for this particular ensemble, as well as contemporary music creation from the eastern Mediterranean. As reported in Fileleftheros, “This unique chamber music ensemble has managed to develop a combination of traditional and contemporary styles and offers an impressive combination of timbres. The trio drew on their diverse musical experiences in classical music, as well as jazz, pop, and traditional music.” The trio was formed in 2014 on the occasion of the “Cyprus Spring” events organized by the Embassy of Cyprus in Germany. Since then, it has given a series of concerts in Munich, Nicosia, Bonn, Amsterdam, Berlin, Helsinki, and London.
