From November 2 to 9, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), in the context of its institutional collaboration with the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS), is organizing a series of events, including training sessions, guided tours, and lectures, on the occasion of the 42nd Authentic Athens Marathon.
“Engaging in sports is not only linked to a healthy lifestyle and well-being; it shapes consciousness, values, character, builds communities of people, and ultimately contributes to shaping the society of the future. This is where we meet the spirit of the Authentic Athens Marathon and the springboard for the strategic partnership between the SNFCC and SEGAS,” emphasized SNFCC CEO Elli Andriopoulou during the press conference for the 42nd Authentic Marathon of Athens held at the SNFCC Lighthouse, adding: “As part of the Athens Authentic Marathon, the SNFCC will once again present Authentic Marathon Week—a series of events combining sports, culture, and education.”
The SNFCC’s activities on the occasion of the Athens Marathon are free of charge thanks to a donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). The detailed program is as follows:
Short guided tours of Spiros Louis’s Breal Cup

Guided tours are conducted in 30-minute slots in Greek and English.
The Breal Cup, the historic trophy awarded to Spyros Louis for his victory in the marathon at the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, is on permanent display at the SNFCC, after being purchased by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) in 2012 at an international auction held by Christie’s. The Cup’s revamped presentation at the SNFCC Exhibition Hall utilizes modern digital media to unfold its rich history, offering an interactive experience for all visitors.
The tour highlights the first Marathon Race and the history of the Cup, offering a new dimension to this historical relic and a “journey” from the first modern Olympic Games to the present day.
