A sweeping and emotionally rich exploration of her identity as an international artist.

Recorded in Athens with a 17-piece band, the album draws on Roubati’s diverse background: jazz, classical and rock music, film scores and Greek/Mediterranean traditions, harmonized into a unique, cinematic sound.

The album Reflections will be released this month.

Known for her expressive performances and evocative writing for film and theater, Roubati divides her time between Athens, London, and New York, also working as a composer for film, dance, and media in Europe and the US. Her work has been presented at festivals worldwide, including Atlanta, Miami, Campania, Italy, Berlin, and New York. Her music composition for the film Beyond the Plaques, commissioned by the National Youth Ballet and English Heritage, won awards such as Best Soundtrack at the International Istanbul Short Film Fest and the Budapest Short Cut Film Festival. It was also nominated for Best Music at the International Sound & Film Music Festival 2025 in Varazdin, Croatia.

With the album Reflections, Sofia Roubati wants to transcend the boundaries of musical genre and stereotypes, expressing a deeply personal view of artistic identity, heritage, and their evolution. “The more I evolve as an artist, the more I feel the pressure to define who I am,” she explains. “Why should I choose a genre of music, be a certain type of artist, be a specific person? People are so much more than that.” The album, recorded over four days at Sierra Studios in Athens, features two saxophones, guitar, bass, drums, a 10-piece string ensemble, a singer, and a lafta (a traditional Greek lute), combining chamber orchestra, jazz music, and Greek folk elements into a sonorous whole that transcends musical genres.

Beyond its musical range, the album Reflections demonstrates Sofia’s commitment to using music as a tool for awareness and dialogue. Whether addressing immigration, gender equality, or the purpose of the artist, her work seeks to leave room for discussion and connection. She continues to compose for film, theater, and dance throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, and the US, while also leading the London-based band Yiasena with Turkish-born guitarist Ozenc Duzenli, exploring shared musical traditions through the lens of jazz.

From recording Together Is Beautiful at Abbey Road Studios for the Earth Orchestra Project to performances at the Preveza Jazz Festival and the Lancaster Jazz Festival (UK), Sofia now presents the album Reflections as an expression of purpose: an ode to the complexity, growth, and endless journey of music.
