On Monday, September 15, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., a presentation will be held in the Lecture Hall of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum following the implementation of the programmatic agreement for the investigation of possibilities for upgrading the building stock of the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion and connecting it with the surrounding area, with the involvement of entities other than the museum itself, the Technical University of Crete and the Municipality of Heraklion.
The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion is a museum space that is transforming into an extroverted hub in constant dialogue with its urban context. From a closed guardian, it aims to gradually transform itself into a hub with a broad urban reach, creating the conditions for comfortable visitation with pleasant and functional rest areas for visitors.
In the above context, Alexios Tzompanakis, professor at the School of Architectural Engineering of the Technical University of Crete and head of the research team responsible for implementing the programmatic agreement, will present the progress of the Museum’s building stock configuration, its transformation into an extroverted core, and its gradual conversion into a hub with a broad urban reach.
The title of the lecture-presentation will be “The Museum as an urban hub. Exploring possibilities for activating wider routes within the historic center of the city of Heraklion.”
