Following the recent government measures concerning Covid-19, and with the safety of its visitors in mind, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is sad to announce the cancellation of all New Year’s Eve events in the presence of an audience.
The turn of the year will be broadcasted live on ERT2 TV Channel, and it will also be available via live-streaming on SNFCC’s website, Facebook page and YouTube channel, with a spectacular fireworks show for its viewers. The event will be hosted by actress Nandia Kontogeorgi, while the eye-catching choreographies of the Dancing Fountains in the Canal and the bright Stavros Niarchos Park could not be absent from the program.
At the same time, access to the other outdoor areas of the SNFCC, including the Stavros Niarchos Park, which hosts the festive light installations, will remain free, however, it will not be possible to watch the fireworks show. More specifically, the Stavros Niarchos Park will be open until 02:00, while the Ice Rink will operate as per usual, with participation by pre-registration.
The live broadcast on ERT2 TV Channel and the live streaming will also feature the Greek National Opera (GNO), with video clips from opera and dance performances. Drawing from the rich archive of GNO TV, the GNO will be presenting arias from Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, W. A. Mozart’s Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro, Umberto Giordano’s Andrea Chénier, Georges Bizet’s Carmen, a choreography to one of Nikos Skalkottas’s Greek Dances, and a special choreography on music by J. S. Bach. The video stars leading international performers alongside the Orchestra, Chorus, Ballet, and Professional Dance School of the Greek National Opera. Following the turn-of-the-year spectacular, ERT2 will continue its broadcast with the recorded concert of the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Stavros Niarchos Hall, under the baton of award-winning conductor George Petrou, featuring delightful tunes from imperial Vienna.
