SNFCC Agora
After two highly successful previous editions, the annual September gathering of Music Schools at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) has now been established as a tradition. For yet another year, the SNFCC, in collaboration with the National Opera (ELS), has invited students from the five Music Schools of Attica to participate in the “3rd Meeting of Music Schools at SNFCC,” which will take place from September 1 to 10, 2025.
During this period, students from the Music Schools of Athens, Alimos, Ilion, Pallini, and Piraeus will attend a series of classes in traditional and symphonic music taught by distinguished professional musicians. Upon completion of the meeting, the students will present a traditional music concert on Tuesday, September 9, at 20:00 in the SNFCC Agora, and a symphonic music concert on Wednesday, September 10, at 20:00 in the Stavros Niarchos Hall.
Enriching this year’s program to further highlight the educational and artistic work carried out in the Music Schools, two additional concerts by ensembles formed within the schools will take place on September 6 and 8. These school bands will showcase a wide range of musical genres—from jazz and ethnic pop to rock, Arabic, and ancient Greek music—offering a diverse and multicultural musical program.
- Traditional Music
There will be a five-day course of lessons and creative expression, in which participants will study the tradition of Thrace, divided into three sections (Northern – Bulgaria, Eastern – Turkey, Western – Greece). There will be separate rehearsals for each instrument group (plucked strings, bowed strings, percussion, wind instruments), dance and singing rehearsals, and group rehearsals. At the final concert, students and teachers will present the results of their work at the SNFCC Agora.
Design and artistic supervision: Haris Lambrakis
The courses are taught by: Katerina Douka (voice, dance), Vangelis Kapiris (percussion, tabla), George Kontogiannis (bowed strings), Haris Lambrakis (improvisation), Martha Mavroidi (stringed instruments), Nedyalko Nedyalkov (wind instruments), Stamatis Pasopoulos (wind instruments).
- Symphonic Music
A masterclass dedicated to the symphony orchestra will be held. The repertoire includes works from the classical, romantic, and contemporary periods. Students will attend individual rehearsals in instrument groups (violin, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion) as well as group rehearsals.
A complete symphonic program will be prepared, which the students will present at the Stavros Niarchos Hall of the Greek National Opera. Participants will collaborate with the Athens Youth Symphony Orchestra (ASY) and the distinguished pianist Stefanos Nasos.
Artistic supervision and orchestra conductor: Pavlos Sergiou
The lessons will be taught by: Alexis Theophylaktou (violin), Eleni Ravanoopoulou (strings), Marinos Tranoudakis (percussion), Giorgos Farougias (woodwinds), and Spyros Farougias (brass).
In Orbit X SNFCC Youth Council
Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28, 20:00
Dome, Stavros Niarchos Park
After five years of continuous presence and promotion of the domestic alternative music scene, the In Orbit festival changes hands. The curation is now undertaken by the SNFCC Youth Council, aiming to chart a new musical trajectory for the city.
From the neighborhoods of Athens to the Dome of SNFCC, young creators bring sounds that defy genres and categories. For two days, the festival broadcasts the musical pulse of the city and becomes a point of reference.
On Saturday, September 27, In Orbit x SNFCC Youth Council opens with aggelina, a new voice in the alternative pop scene with a spontaneous sound, followed by KAPTEN, presenting a set that builds an atmospheric sound universe where afrobeats, soul, hip hop, and underground rock unexpectedly blend. Next, The Bonnie Nettles offer a unique mix of psychedelic rock and experimental pop influences—a journey somewhere between fantasy and reality. The night closes explosively with the electronic duo 3MHNES (Agatha & Molyneaux), balancing lo-fi sensitivity and the energy of club sound.
The second day starts with improvisations and an authentic, unpretentious mix of musical styles from the Kostas Sidirokastritis Group. Then, great for healing blend jazz and electronic music with experimental sounds. Kadinelia enrich Greek traditional music with blues, rock, and electronic elements in a psychedelic mix where the Cycladic bagpipe and lyre meet beatboxing and guitar. The festival ends with tech-folk sounds from Billie Kark, in a live show where ambient electronic music coexists with traditional polyphony and dialectal nuances.
The Parklife concert series, the 3rd Music Schools Meeting, and the In Orbit X SNFCC Youth Council festival are held with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
