The value of art is redefined through the exchange auction that will take place on Thursday 19 December 2024, at 20:00, at the MOMus-Alex Mylonas Museum, in the context of the exhibition “Rania Emmanouilidou. Under the Radar“. In this unique artistic venture, artworks will be exchanged for anything but cash and participants will have the opportunity to explore how art can subvert traditional values.

The action includes the creation of collective works by Rania Emmanouilidou in collaboration with the artists Eugenia Grammenou, Virginia Mastrogiannaki, Fani Bountouroglou and Lia Psoma. In this auction, artworks will not be exchanged for money, but for objects or services offered by the participants. The value of the works is determined by the creativity and cooperation of the public. If two people want the same artwork, the public with a live vote decides who gets which one. This experiment challenges conventional notions of value, raising questions about the affordability of art, the economic well-being of artists, and the potential for economies based on solidarity. In the exchange auction, participants have the opportunity to rethink the concept of value and engage in a process that promotes collectivity, creativity and solidarity beyond traditional economic structures.

This action is part of the exhibition “Rania Emmanouilidou. Under the Radar”, which highlights issues of gender, identity and politics through the artist’s dynamic and multidimensional creations. The exhibition will remain open until 26 January 2025. Curator Thouli Misirloglou, Artistic Director of MOMus Museum of Contemporary Art.

Participation in the action is with the entrance ticket to the venue. The ticket is issued online via the ComeTogether platform here or in person at the Museum Reception, half an hour before the event, subject to availability. Information at tel. 210 3215717.
