The much-discussed performance MINTATI, which premiered in 2024 as part of the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, returns for two performances only, on September 6 and 7 at PEIRAIOS 260. This is an excellent opportunity for those who did not see it last year, as well as for those who wish to relive the experience.
MINTATI, conceived and choreographed by Jenny Argyriou, draws inspiration from the collective dynamics of traditional dances and contemporary choreographic practices, raising questions about new forms of expression and ritual that can bring us together. At the core of the work lies the concept of community, memory, and co-creation.
“Mintati” in Epirus, “xelasia” in the Peloponnese, “argatia” in Pontus, “allaxia” in Ikaria, “ambasada” in the Cyclades – these are names used for the collective work of members of a community with the aim of producing a public benefit project. These were practices rooted in everyday life, based uncompromisingly on mutual aid and solidarity: two values that seem to be lost today.
In this spirit of “shared effort,” dancers and musicians shape the landscape and create a living archive of sounds and movements—memories of dances that emerge from the depths of time and meet the present—gradually opening the concentric circles of a collective celebration.
