The last works before the first day of schools are being carried out at the 9th Primary School of Chalepa, which was completely reconstructed during the summer. The work, which began with the students’ summer holidays, was carried out with full respect for the age and character of the building.

Specifically, the reconstruction works for the 9th Primary School of Chalepa included the removal of the worn tile roof and the installation of a new one, the replacement of all the windows with new, high energy efficiency windows, the replacement of all the electrical installations and the installation of new LED lighting technology and the replacement of the worn wooden floors with new wooden floors.

The Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis, stressed that “the materials used and all the interventions that were made with absolute respect for the historicity of the building, which is one of the oldest schools in the Municipality of Chania. We are particularly proud of the tremendous work done in recent years in the schools of our municipality and we aspire to give a definitive answer to the issues of school housing”.

In turn, the Deputy Mayor of Education, Antonis Vardakis, pointed out: “priority had been given to schools that face chronic building problems mainly due to age, such as the 9th and 16th, while every summer with the same perseverance and zeal, we will continue to improve as many schools as we can, using every financial tool”.
