As noted in the six-minute trailer introducing Dimitri Papaioannou’s new work, “Transverse Orientation” means “keeping a fixed angle on a distant source of light for orientation.” The video closes with a phrase by the 13th-century Persian poet Rumi: “Judge a moth by the beauty of its candle”. Initially programmed for the 2019-20 season, the production was canceled due to the health measures against the pandemic, but it is now ready and will premiere in Lyon, France, on June 2, 2021.
