The OpenEU Alliance, coordinated by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), brings together 14 universities and 13 academic, business, rural, municipal and social associations from across Europe to create a pan-European open university.
OpenEU will contribute to the digital transformation of higher education institutions and the integration of technology in teaching and learning.
OpenEU is one of 14 new alliances that received funding under the European Commission’s latest call for proposals under the European Universities initiative.
OpenEU, as the first pan-European open university, aims to enhance the digital, green and social dimension of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) by providing access to high quality higher education and lifelong learning for all, delivering accessible and sustainable international experiences to all students and contributing to the digital transformation of institutions.
The President of the HOU, Professor Ioannis Kalavrouziotis, stated that the creation of a European Open University is crucial for the promotion of academic cooperation, environmental sustainability and equality in education across Europe. This university will enhance academic innovation by promoting a single European learning and development space and the synergies that will be developed will strengthen academic and research initiatives at European level.
