With a dynamic presence and emphasis on cooperation and creativity, Greece will participate again this year in the 62nd Bologna Children’s Book Fair, from Monday 31 March to Thursday 3 April 2025, at the Bologna Fiere exhibition centre, with the aim of supporting Greek candidates for awards from international organisations and promoting talented young Greek authors.
At the Greek pavilion (Hall 30 Stand A38 B37), the publications of the Ministry of Culture and its supervised institutions and other cultural institutions will be presented. In addition, some 50 Greek publishers and cultural institutions will present more than 500 editions in Greek and other languages of translated books published with the support of GreekLit, the programme to subsidise translations of titles in every category of Greek book production. In addition, 6 authors and illustrators are participating, while Greece is also taking part in Comics Corner, the special area of the exhibition dedicated to comics and graphic novels.
Special emphasis is given this year to the action “One story, many voices. A multilingual storytelling journey with silent books”, an open and participatory experience that uses silent books – books without words – as a means of expression, multilingualism and intercultural understanding. Through workshops, collective narratives and creative “translations” of images into different languages, the action highlights the power of the image as a universal language.
At the same time, visits and events will take place in Greek schools of the Greek Diaspora, strengthening the link with the Greek diaspora and the creative interaction of children in collaboration with Greek publishers, authors, illustrators and representatives of the Greek Section of the IBBY-Circle of Greek Children’s Books, the members of the State Children’s Book Awards Committee and the Greek Community of Emilia Romagna.
The Bologna Children’s Book Fair is the leading international event in the field of children’s and teenage books. In 2025 it will bring together over 1,500 exhibitors, thousands of publishers, literary agents, illustrators, authors, booksellers, librarians, etc, from more than 90 countries (with the participation, for the first time, of Albania, Azerbaijan, Iceland, Ecuador, Georgia, Guatemala, Iceland, Madagascar, Malta, North Macedonia, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand), and with Estonia as the country of honour.
