
With three days of events of cultural, historical, and scientific interest, the Municipality of Agia, in collaboration with the Region of Thessaly, the Local Community, and the P.E.S. of Metaxochori, is organizing the 44th Cherry Festival 2025. The events will last from Friday, June 6 to Sunday, June 8, and the co-organizers of the events are the Agricultural Cooperative and the Agricultural Association of Metaxochori, as well as the General State Archives
Visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the monuments and the beauties of the region, but also to participate in a number of parallel events.
More specifically, the three-day programme includes:
FRIDAY 6 JUNE
7:45 PM – Lecture on “Cultivation problems arising in cherry trees due to climate change” by Konstantinos Kazantzis, Agricultural Technologist MSc at ELGO “DIMITRA”.
8:15 PM – Lecture on “Agia Basin: the living laboratory for co-creating solutions for resilience to floods – droughts and water saving” by Dr. Andreas Panagopoulos, Research Director at ELGO “DIMITRA” – Institute of Soil and Water Resources.
9:00 PM – Presentation of traditional dances by the children’s and youth groups of the M.P.S. Agioton “M. Dallas” and the P.S. Omorphochoriou.
SATURDAY 7 JUNE
7:30 PM – Meeting of officials at the General State Archives (G.A.K.). Presentation by Ms. Fani Karagianni, Archivist of the G.A.K. Larissa, titled “Diaries of Occupation and Resistance. Voices of Agia.”
8:30 PM – Blessing ceremony – Greetings – Speeches – Visit to the exhibitors’ booths.
9:00 PM – Guided tour of the Parthenagogio (Girls’ School). Art exhibition by Stergios Chatzoulis on the theme of rural life.
10:00 PM – Music night at the village square.
SUNDAY 8 JUNE
10:30 AM – Guided tour of the village’s ecclesiastical monuments by the Head of Antiquities of Larissa, Ms. Stavroula Sdrolia.
11:00 AM – Presentation of the Educational Program of the General State Archives (G.A.K.) titled “Archives Tell Stories” by the Archivist of G.A.K. Larissa, Ms. Alexandra Mamouri.
11:45 AM – “Sweet Cherry: The Secrets of Success” presented by the ladies of the village.
12:30 PM – “Clay Workshop – Making Little Cherries” under the guidance of the potter Fani Garoufalia. Children aged 5 and above can participate, accompanied by a parent.
1:00 PM – Activities for children organized by the 1st Scout Group of Agia.
