On Saturday, March 21, the opening of the group art exhibition “Ideas & Symbols” took place at the Cultural Foundation of Tinos. The opening was attended by artist and president of the FERMELI Cultural Society, Liza Pentheroudaki, who was also responsible for organizing the exhibition, playing a key role in its design and implementation.
The exhibition, curated by archaeologist and art historian Iris Kritikou and organized by the FERMELI Cultural Society, runs through April 23, 2026, and features works by 25 distinguished Greek artists. Through a variety of techniques and materials, the works explore symbols deeply rooted in Greek culture, highlighting their timeless significance as vessels of memory and identity. The exhibition has already been successfully presented at the Museum of the City of Athens in 2024 and at the Historical and Folklore Museum of Aegina in 2025, continuing its journey at the Cultural Foundation of Tinos.
During the opening ceremony, the exhibition organizers delivered their remarks.
Liza Pentheroudaki stated:
“As part of its mission, FERMELI carries out initiatives aimed at promoting the historical, cultural, and ethical aspects associated with the Evzones to students of all ages.”
The exhibition’s curator, Iris Kritikou, explaining the concept behind the exhibition and its installation in the Cultural Foundation’s temporary exhibition hall:
“The twenty-five works in the exhibition, created specifically for this section, are framed by smaller and larger works on the same theme, as well as by artifacts from private collections. Together, they form self-contained installations within the exhibition space, developing a multifaceted visual and conceptual narrative.”

For his part, Philippos Pierros, President of the Cultural Foundation of Tinos, in expressing his gratitude to the President of FERMELI, the curator, and the participating artists, emphasized:
“As the historian and philosopher Ananda Coomaraswamy has pointed out, symbols are, among other things, an art of thinking. In this way, we seek to approach them not as masks of an anachronistic national and religious chauvinism, but as springboards for reflection, deep analysis, critical reading, and, ultimately, dreamlike exultation.”
In the participation of the artists:
Anna Achilleos, Marios Voutsinas, Mary Galani-Kritikou, Maria Geroula, Stratigoula Giannikopoulou, Irini Zaimi, Evita Kanellou, Vasilis Kilitslis, Maria Diakodimitriou, Tasos Madamopoulos, Minas Mavrikakis, Manos Batzolis, Ismini Bonatsou, Roula Boua, Christos Papadakis, Ioanna Paraskeva, Christina Paraskevopoulou, Liza Pentheroudaki, Marietta Pepelasi, Katerina Polyzoidi-Mavroleon, Babis Pylarinos, Ifigeneia Sdoulou, Katerina Stathatou, Marina Stellatou, Vasso Triga.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog edited by Iris Kritikou.
As part of the exhibition, educational workshops are being held for elementary school children, focusing on the figure of the Evzones and the symbolism of Greek history. The workshops are designed and led by Liza Pentheroudaki, offering young participants the opportunity to engage with history in a hands-on way through art and creative expression.
