The Municipality of Agia, as part of the summer artistic events, presents the award-winning performance “Medea’s Burqa” by Andreas Flourakis, produced by the Thessalian Theatre and directed by Kyriaki Spanou with Marsella Lena. The spectators will have the opportunity to enjoy this unforgettable and unique experience with a beautiful view at the Melivoia School Theater on August 1.

The performance was first staged in the summer of 2023 at the packed B’ Ancient Theatre of Larissa and thrilled the audience. It then travelled to New York and was awarded at the United Solo Festival in October 2023 (Best performance of body theatre) and was performed in Athens in May 2024 at the theatre “En Athinais” in Gazi with great success, receiving very positive reviews.

What does it mean for a woman of a different background, culture and religion to have to give up her identity so that she does not stand out from women in the Western world? What is this “inescapable” pressure to homogenize everything? As the play says “…the skin is the burqa” and takes us to the existential question of whether one can change one’s destiny and move on to what one chooses!
