The cultural and historical journey of Melivia will be presented by philologist Odysseas Tsintzirakos at a special event on Lazarus Saturday, April 4, at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Melivia Elementary School.

The event, titled “Athanati, the Living Descendant of Ancient Melivia,” is organized by the Community of Melivia and the non-profit organization MELIVIAS DEMAS.

The following topics will be presented during the event:

  • The founding of the settlement – The Other Country – Mount Kelion – historic settlements
  • Population trends – lost surnames – censuses of 1454 and 1570
  • The local dialect of the inhabitants
  • The name of the village – Kokkino Nero, Koutsoupia
  • The excommunication of the village in 1864 – Agia Paraskevi – lifting of the excommunication

At the same time, there will be a presentation of photographs.
