Inspired by the travels of Chiarman Clift, George Johnston and Leonard Cohen, Oliver Altermatt travelled to Hydra in the summer of 2024 to launch Faces of Hydra, a social documentary photography project.

This effort explores and depicts the life of the inhabitants of Hydra, capturing the unique character of the island and its untold stories.

Oliver returned in November, as the tourist season on the island is waning, to record the quieter rhythms of daily life during the tourist-free season. Before returning to Australia at the end of the year, he proposed to present his work at a slide show at the Historical Archives – Museum of Hydra, a proposal which was gladly accepted by the President of the IAMY Institution, Dina Adamopoulou.

In the summer of 2025 he intends to bring the Faces of Hydra to life through a published PHOTOBOOK and an outdoor exhibition along the port of Hydra.
