At the port of Agiokampos, the ceremony of the Water Consecration took place, presided by the Archpriest Commissioner of Agia, Fr. Athanasios, in the presence of the Mayor of Agia, Ant. Gountaras, the deputy mayors D. Tsetsilas and S. Souloukos, municipal and regional councillors and a large number of devotees.
The number of people who “dived” into the icy waters of the Aegean to catch the cross was remarkable at this year’s ceremony, exceeding thirty, with the young Konstantinos Korakas, who was the first to reach the spot.
The praise was given “on board” in the specially designed boat of the rescue team, which hosted the Archpriest Commissioner and the officials.
The Mayor of Agia Antonis Gountaras presented the lucky person who caught the cross with an icon of St. Nicholas as a gift and wished everyone a happy new year and “good enlightenment”.
