The photography exhibition by Dimitris G. Louzikiotis titled “Athos Thyravloi Stomen” opens on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the Iersissos Cultural Center.
This is a single-theme exhibition of forty-five works, featuring doors and windows from buildings of Mount Athos, on which the artist worked from the early 2000s until around 2009. The exhibition was presented at the exhibition space of the Athonite Center in March 2018 and has since traveled to cities in Greece and abroad.
In Iersissos, it is organized by the Municipality of Aristotle (Deputy Mayor of Social Protection, Solidarity, and Culture), with the support of the Athonite Center and the assistance of the Tourism Property Development of the Municipality of Aristotle (AXTADA).
From the project, the eponymous photographic album was published in 2016 (published by “Chartodeto”). In the introduction of the album, among other things, Phaidon Chatziantoniou writes: “..the photographic work of Dimitris Louzikiotis… preserves a representative collection of doors and windows, some of which no longer exist. Born out of necessity, carriers of memory, evidence of skills and culture, doors and windows belong among the most vulnerable—and, ultimately, expendable—elements of a place’s architectural history. And let us always keep in mind, as door-watchers, that just as the eyes are the mirror of the soul, so too do the doors and windows testify to the unseen core of the life they define and guard, and for this reason, they deserve our attention, respect, and love.”
