The Helmis Natural History Museum is organizing the 1st Mushroom Festival, from Friday, December 5, to Sunday, December 7, with a rich program of events, presentations, and lectures.

Friday 05 December 

The curtain rises at 5 p.m. with a talk by author and researcher George Konstantinidis, who is also President of the Greek Mushroom Society. The guest speaker will introduce the audience to the world of mycology through his many years of experience and research.

At 7 p.m., there will be a presentation on “Underground Mushrooms” by Nikos Tsilis, secretary of the Greek Mushroom Lovers Association, focusing on a lesser-known but extremely interesting field of mycology.

Saturday 6 December

Saturday’s events begin at 10:30 a.m., with nutritionist Maria Sidirokastriti analyzing the nutritional value of mushrooms, highlighting their benefits in the daily diet.

At 11:00, Giannis Papadimitriou and Dimitra Katsala present mushroom cultivation, as well as individual cultivation techniques, a topic of particular interest to those who want to get involved in the field.

At 12:00, the photo exhibition will be presented at the conference venue, while at 12:30, Giorgos Konstantinidis will present his books to the public.

Sunday 7 December 

The last day of the festival includes an experiential hike at 10:30 a.m., with the aim of collecting and identifying mushrooms in their natural environment. The activity is carried out with the assistance of specially trained dogs, followed by a tasting session in the forest, a unique experience offered by the Greek Mushroom Lovers Association.
