The Music Academy of the University of Cyprus announces the availability of a number of places for new students to join the string instrument classes, as follows:

• Violin: 2 vacancies
• double bass: 2 vacancies

Auditions will be held in Nicosia and Limassol in two stages, which will include an interview and an evaluation process before an evaluation committee.

Requirements for participation:

A. Age: Violin 10-14 years old, double bass: 8-12 years old.

B. Procedure:

– In the case of NO prior musical education: An audition is held to assess the level of musical perception and adaptability to the instrument of choice (auditory and rhythmic perception, concentration, responsiveness, and adaptability to the instrument of choice).

– In case of prior musical education on any instrument:

• Send a video with an excerpt from a recent performance/interpretation (from a lesson and/or concert).
• Live audition, demonstrating technical training, musical perception/interpretation appropriate to the level and age. The audition will include the interpretation of a prepared piece and an unfamiliar musical excerpt (sight reading), as well as aural and music theory exercises.

Application process: Parents/guardians can only submit their expression of interest electronically by completing and submitting the application form entitled “Enrollment in the Music Academy of the University of Cyprus” (relevant link here).

The deadline for submitting expressions of interest is Friday, January 30, 2026, at 5 p.m. Interviews will be held during the second week of February in Nicosia and Limassol, and the students who are selected will immediately begin their studies with a 6-month trial period.

The Music Academy of the University of Cyprus is an educational institution that promotes artistic excellence, providing gifted children with exceptional musical abilities with a comprehensive music education with the aim of cultivating and providing professional training in string instruments for the Symphony Orchestra.

Important note: Parents/guardians should be aware that studying at the University of Cyprus Music Academy is intensive and specialized in accordance with international music academy standards. Therefore, it requires the student to be present at the Academy 3-4 times a week, including Saturday mornings, from September until the first ten days of July.
