SUPERVISION: Department of Economics

WORK LOCATION: University of Cyprus, Nicosia

The Department of Economics at the University of Cyprus is accepting applications to fill one (1) position of Specialist (Project Support) for full-time employment (38 hours/week) with working hours to be determined by the Head of the Organisational Unit, based on needs. The working hours will be announced by the Head of the Organisational Unit during the interview, for the purpose of providing administrative support to the Department of Economics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Project Support Specialist will perform the following administrative duties under the direct and general supervision of the Department Chair:

  • Contributes to the mission of the Department of Economics by supporting efforts to contribute to scientific research, teaching, and the interconnection of science with society.
  • Provides administrative support to the Department of Economics’ study programs.
  • Performs general administrative, secretarial, and/or accounting duties related to the responsibilities of the Department of Economics.
  • Is responsible for implementing basic processes and achieving predetermined goals and indicators, as specified in the Department’s business plan.
  • He/she is responsible for the organization, updating, and smooth operation of the Department’s archives.
  • He/she drafts and submits reports and memos in Greek and English.
  • He/she collects and processes statistics and other data and information and prepares and submits reports.
  • Collects and organizes documents for the Department Council meetings, keeps minutes, and contributes to the monitoring and timely implementation of the decisions taken.
  • Ensures the procurement, management, and smooth operation of electronic/technological and office equipment, as well as the accommodation needs of the Department.
  • Contributes to the implementation of legislation and regulations relevant to the duties of the position, as well as to the timely implementation of the decisions of the collective bodies of the University.
  • Organizes and coordinates workshops, events, seminars, and conferences related to the activities of the Department.
  • Performs any other related duties assigned to him/her.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  1. University degree or equivalent qualification
  2. Very good knowledge of Greek and English
  3. Very good knowledge of word processing, Microsoft Word (Windows), and spreadsheets (Excel).
  4. Ability to use the Internet as well as experience and familiarity with the Teams and Zoom collaboration and teleconferencing platforms.
  5. Experience in planning, organizing, and implementing events/exhibitions.
  6. At least two years of work experience relevant to the duties of the position.
  7. Integrity, discretion, responsibility, initiative, sound judgment, organizational and administrative skills, and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Success in the Intermediate or Higher Accounting Examination of the London Chamber of Commerce or any other examination approved as equivalent by the Minister of Finance will be considered an additional qualification.
  • A degree in Business Administration, Economics, or a related field will be considered an advantage.
