EMST | National Museum of Contemporary Art in collaboration with the Künstlerhaus Bethanien cultural centre in Berlin announces a new residency programme which gives the opportunity to Greek artists based in Greece to reside for six months in Berlin. The programme encourages artistic production and critical reflection while facilitating the meeting of people involved in the arts and culture. The infrastructure and the international context of the cultural centre provide participants with the right environment to experiment with new ideas, engage in critical discussions and realise projects in different media.

The 6-month hospitality includes:

– bright and spacious studio (living and working area) with internet connection. (No relatives and friends are allowed.)
– Participation in “open studios”, various events, as well as visits to artists’ workshops.
– professional guidance (curatorial, technical and administrative support); and
networking
– access to workshops such as woodworking, video editing, etc.
– presentation of works on the premises of Künstlerhaus Bethanien, in the context of the presentation of other guest artists.
– exhibition in the exhibition space of Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin at the end of the stay.
– contribution to living expenses
– travel expenses (arrival/departure)
– health insurance not included

For 2025, the following accommodation is available:
1 February 2025 – 30 July 2025
1 May 2025 – 31 October 2025

Who can apply:
The residency program is open to outstanding professional artists living in Greece. Applicants may work in any visual medium and should have at least five years of work experience. The project wishes to support visual artists, the discussion and presentation of their work in an international context and their connection to the vibrant art scene in Berlin and beyond. There is no age restriction.

Application requirements:
Selected fellows agree to participate wholeheartedly in the given working environment and thus to spend the majority of their time at Künstlerhaus Bethanien. Among other things, the artists are required to interact and communicate intensively with the Künstlerhaus team about the works and the concept of their exhibition, especially during its preparation.
Applicants should have a good level of spoken and written English.

A four-member professional jury will reach a decision by February. The artists will be informed shortly afterwards.
