The National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST), in response to its role as the preeminent public institution supporting contemporary art and the community of those who work in it, is issuing an open call for the curatorship of a group exhibition, which will be included in its temporary exhibition programme in the autumn of 2025. Proposals will be evaluated by the EMST’s Artistic Directorate and curatorial team, and whichever one is selected will be implemented in a Museum space.
The deadline for proposals is Monday 25 August 2025.
The call is part of the EMST’s policy of expanded collaborations and best practices.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
- The strengthening of curatorial research in Greece
- The contribution to the professional training of emerging curators through the Museum’s expertise and infrastructure
- The promotion of professional recognition of curatorship and wider support for those working in the field of contemporary art
- The polyphonic approach in the Museum’s exhibition programming
OUTLINE OF THE INVITATION
The open call is for proposals for the organization and curation of a group exhibition at the EMST in Autumn 2025. The exhibition should include works by the ΕΜΣΤ collection– ideally – and documents from the Museum’s Archive. The proposal may also include artists whose work is in conversation with either the Collection or the EMST Archive.
The invitation is addressed to curators, curators and curatorial teams supervising the field of Greek contemporary art. Candidates must not have a full and exclusive employment relationship with another public or private institution during the period of the exhibition.
The production of the selected exhibition will be funded by the EMST with the amount of 25.000 euros + VAT including the curatorial fee. The artists’ fee is considered necessary and amounts to €500 + VAT per artist or artistic group (for an existing work) if they are not artists belonging to the EMST Collection. The amount of €25,000 includes transport, production and insurance coverage of the exhibition works, artists’ fees, installation and removal of the works of art, O/A equipment, etc.
In line with EMST’s best practices, the Museum will provide technical and full communication support for the exhibition.
The exhibition will be held in Project Room 2 on the third floor of the Museum. Those interested can find the floor plan of the room at the following link: MATERIALS
