“The Legend of Mulan“, one of the world’s most famous myths, opens the Kids’ Theatre Stage section of the Patras International Festival at 9.30 pm on Tuesday 16 July at the Municipal Summer Theatre.
The play is being performed for the first time in a theatrical adaptation for children in Greece by Christos Tripodis‘ children’s theatre. It is a spectacular theatrical production, based on the ancient Chinese poem “The Ballad of Hua Mulan“, with impressive costumes, sets, sword fights and choreography, as well as interactive play with the audience.
“The Ballad of Hua Mulan” is the legendary tale of a woman who defies prefectures and traditions. A female warrior in Chinese history, from the dynasties of the North and South (4th to 5th century AD). In Chinese, ‘Hua’ means flower and ‘Mulan’ means magnolia. The Chinese believe he was a real person. Historians have not settled whether it is a myth or reality, although they accept the poem’s historical evidence about the war.
