The Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, visited the former President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, at her office and invited her to accept the position of Chair of the Board of Directors of the Athens-Epidaurus Festival. The institution, founded by Konstantinos Karamanlis, celebrated its 70th anniversary this year, giving the global community the opportunity to be initiated into ancient tragic drama. Every year, the events of the Athens-Epidaurus Festival, held at the Asklepieion Theater in Epidaurus and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, are major cultural events in the country.
The Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, stated the following: “It is a great honor for the Ministry of Culture and the Athens-Epidaurus Festival that our proposal has been accepted by the former President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, to take over the administration of the Greek Festival. This year, the Festival enters its second 70 years, established, renewed, and with great prospects. Her presence as head of the Organization’s Board of Directors lends prestige and dynamism to the institution. I thank her.”
