Description

The Interinstitutional Postgraduate Program “Greece: Ecclesiastical History and Culture,” implemented by the Department of Social Theology and Christian Culture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) as the coordinating department, and by the Department of Social Theology and Religious Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), started operation in the academic year 2016-2017 and has continued with absolute success to this day.

The program is aimed at graduates from all university departments (AEI), technological educational institutes (TEI), production schools, and higher ecclesiastical academies who have an interest in historical, theological, and broadly various aspects and approaches to modern Greek culture. The Interinstitutional Postgraduate Program focuses on the study and research of various historical and cultural data of the Orthodox Christian life as they developed throughout the historical course of the Church in the Greek area.

The purpose of the Program is to cultivate and promote scientific knowledge and research in the fields of History and Culture of the Greek area, as well as to train theologians, historians, lawyers, philologists, sociologists, political scientists, diplomats, Church officials, and public servants with relevant knowledge related to the subject, along with specialists from many other academic fields. This enables them to deliver high-quality professional, research, and scientific work and to serve as personnel in organizations related to the Program’s knowledge areas. The Study Program is structured over three (3) academic semesters, considered as a two-year cycle, awarding 90 ECTS. Upon successful completion, the program confers the Master’s Degree (MSc) titled “Greece: Ecclesiastical History and Culture” / MSc “Greece: Church History and Civilization.”

The courses are taught by specialists and distinguished professors with in-person attendance at the Theological Schools of Thessaloniki and Athens, as well as through distance learning, taking into account the special needs of the participants, who are primarily working professionals. Notably, as evidenced by the program’s many years of operation, the students come from a variety of faculties, departments, and almost every professional field.

Within the framework of the Program, Scientific Conferences and Workshops are organized, with the aim of the active participation of students. Graduates, upon completion of their studies, receive, in an official ceremony, their master’s degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which is recognized in Greece and abroad, as well as a diploma supplement.

The program’s tuition fees are particularly affordable, as their total cost amounts to 1,800 euros (600 euros for each academic semester, in three installments).

The deadline for submitting applications and other supporting documents for the academic year 2024-2025 is set from August 25th to October 5th, 2025, with the possibility of extending this period.
