The Hellenic Authors’ Society and the Epigraphic Museum co-organize the Fifth Cycle of Educational Lectures in October 2024 which includes three lectures on “From Ecology to Literature” by the writer, environmentalist and geographer Michalis Modinos.
The speaker, who is also a member of the Hellenic Authors’ Society, was born in Athens in 1950. A theorist and activist in the ecological movement, he has worked as an environmentalist, geographer and engineer in Africa, Latin America and the Greek periphery. For the last decade and a half he has worked as a book reviewer for the newspaper TA NEA and various literary magazines.
The lectures are scheduled for 9, 16, 23 October 2024 and will be held in the lecture hall of the Epigraphic Museum, Tositsa 1 in Exarchia.
On Wednesday 9 October 2024 at 18:00 the first lecture will be given entitled “Scientific ecology and the birth of the environmental movement: Scientific Ecology, Industrial Development, Pollution and the Birth of the Environmental Movement. The first major international conferences“.
The second lecture is entitled “Universality and locality: from politics to policy and from contestation to integration: globalisation, environmental policies, green politics. From contestation to integration. Is the glass half full?”
The third lecture is entitled “From science to art: the revival of urgency and the search for catharsis: The revival of urgency and the search for catharsis. End of the world literature – environmental touches or highlighting of minor conflicts? The triumph of climate change as a trap concept. The horror industry. Do total environmental narratives make sense? Is there such a thing as ecological literature?”
