On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the first vote of the Board of Governors of the Hellenic Open University was completed in order to elect the first Rector in the thirty-year operation of the Institution.

In the process, Professor of the Faculty of Humanities Emmanuel Koutouzis was elected to the office of Rector.

The Vice-Rectors, who complete the new group, are Professor Athanasios Michiotis of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Panagiotis Kagialis of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Efthimios Zervas of the Faculty of Applied Arts and Sustainable Design and Professor Vasilios Verykios of the Faculty of Science and Technology.

The appointment of the first elected administration of the HOU is a milestone in the already successful course of the Institution, which established and consolidated Open and Distance Higher Education in Greece.
