The artist, drawing his themes from Greek history and everyday life, and combining objects and light in a special way, changes their utilitarian function by turning them into innovative, unique creations.

The KALOGERA Hall “Maria Igglesi” of the Municipal Gallery of the Municipality of Mykonos is hosting a lighting art exhibition titled QUE LUMEN (Reflected Light), with the support of KDEPPAM (Public Benefit Municipal Enterprise for the Environment, Education, and Development of Mykonos).

From 21 to 29 August, 12 older as well as new works of thematic lighting creations by Vassilis Roumeliotis will be exhibited. Some of them were originally designed digitally, since the 3D design process contributes to the aesthetic improvement, but also helps solve technical issues. Some of the works belong to the thematic unit “Minoan Age”, while two others belong to the collection “Unfulfilled Love” which, among others, refers to the love of Ioannis Kapodistrias for Roxandra Stourtza and Manto Mavrogenous’ love for Alexandros Ypsilantis; creating thus two works which constitute the artist’s way of paying tribute to the 200^th anniversary of the Greek Revolution.

Vassilis Roumeliotis – About the artist

Vassilis Roumeliotis was born in 1977 in Thessaloniki. He studied Technological Civil Engineering (Department of Architecture) at the International Hellenic University, and holds a Master’s degree in Geoinformatics from the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands. Because of his love for design and the creation of unique objects, he became interest in the design and construction of lighting works. The artist, drawing his themes from Greek history and everyday life and combining objects and light in a special way, changes their utilitarian function by turning them into innovative, unique creations. He has been influenced, among other things, by architectural minimalism and industrial design, and uses mainly wood, metal and glass in combination with modern energy-saving light sources.
