The Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy is organizing an international conference titled “The Evolution of Modern Constitutional Democracy: Threats and Challenges.”

Today, while democracy appears to be spreading to ever-larger parts of the world, it is simultaneously threatened by the resurgence of authoritarianism and the rise of anti-liberal populism. Recent developments appear to be reshaping domestic and global political and economic agendas. This presents an opportunity to reflect on the prospects for progress as well as the risks of the erosion of modern representative democracy. Can democracy evolve further without, in essence, losing its core essence as a system of equal opportunity? Are philosophical ideas capable of inspiring new and politically more effective interpretations that will make democracy politically stable within our societies and attractive internationally?

The conference will take place in Athens, in the Senate Hall of the Hellenic Parliament, on October 21, 2026, and in the event hall of the Hellenic Parliament building at 22–24 Amalias Street (entrance from Rallou Manou Square) on Thursday, October 22, and Friday, October 23, 2026. The working language will be English. The President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Nikitas M. Kaklamanis, will open the conference at 5:00 p.m.

Admission is free upon presentation of an ID card.

A certificate of attendance will be provided.
