The Cervantes Institute in Athens and the Athens Spanish-Language Film Festival (FeCHA), in collaboration with the Nirvana Cinemax and Newman Cinema theaters, and with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Spanish Embassy in Greece, present El Club: A film club dedicated to Spanish-language cinema.

Thanks to this collaboration between public and private entities, El Club aims to become not only a hub and meeting place for lovers of Spanish-language cinema, but also a regular forum for reflection on current issues and for discovering contemporary cinematic gems.

With a monthly program at movie theaters across the city, El Club is structured around two main programming themes: Nirvana Cinemax will focus on re-screening great classics of Spanish-language cinema, while Newman Cinema will present a selection of thematic series consisting of films (many of which are premiering in Greece) from contemporary Spanish-language cinema.

Thus, the Nirvana Cinemax theater will screen one film per month, placing special emphasis on the historical significance of Spanish and Latin American cinema. These are films that have shaped the evolution of Spanish-language cinema, from the very beginnings of the art of film right up to the present day.

On the other hand, the Newman Cinema will screen selected recent titles in collaboration with major festivals and organizations in Spain and Latin America. The most daring cinema, with diverse themes and hybrid forms, invites us to explore the contemporary world through music, history, or sociology.

The section “Music for Your Eyes” (Música para tus ojos) will be the first of these thematic cycles. In collaboration with the internationally renowned IN-EDIT music documentary festival, we will present a selection of films that tell stories about how we experience music through the body in the absence of sound or through dance.

All films will be screened with Greek subtitles. In the case of the film El canto de las manos (The Song of the Hands), the subtitles will be adapted for people with hearing impairments.
