The North Aegean Region, under the auspices of UNESCO, is honored to present an exhibition by the renowned Greek painter Sotiris Sorogas, titled “Images from Greece,” in the evocative setting of the Hamidiye Mosque in the Castle of Chios. The opening will take place on August 30, 2026, at 7:30 p.m.

The exhibition, organized by the North Aegean Region and Regional Governor Konstantinos Moutzouris, seeks to foster a profound dialogue with the historical memory of Chios. Sotiris Sorogas, using charcoal and acrylic with exceptional skill, highlights the humble, everyday traces of a Greece that has been lost, capturing them on canvas to give them new life.

At the heart of the exhibition are the characteristic Sorogas fishing boats, dilapidated and left to decay, which speak directly to the rich maritime heritage of Chios, the land of captains and unsung sailors. Beside them, fragments of ruined windmills and old pieces of driftwood bear witness to another era, evoking the historic landmarks of the Chian landscape.

Within this unique historical monument of Chios, the viewer is invited to discover the beauty hidden in the remnants of the past.
